First international youth internet tournament “ORT Chess Federation Cup 2010” has started yesterday, involving eight junior teams from four countries: Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Moldova. Chisinau ORT team began successfully the competition. Moldavian chess players have won both matches in the first day of competition. In the first round, Chisinau defeated with a score 5.5 - 0.5 the team of Sofia, and in second round our team registered the victory against ORT Kiev with 4,5-1,5. Next two rounds will be held next Thursday, on April 15, when the Moldavian team will meet with Odessa and Moscow. Photos, results and pairings ..

| 21.08.09 Chess is a new subject in schools of Moldova |
The oldest game of humanity will be included in the curriculum of schools in Moldova since the autumn of this year in accordance with Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova "On some measures of chess sports promoting in the Republic of Moldova". It states in part: to consider the promotion of chess sports as one of the priorities of the sport development in the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Education and Youth have to include chess module in the curriculum of school discipline "Physical Education" with effect since 2009-2010 school year. In the Central Chess Club of Chisinau a seminar for trainers, who will coordinate the training process of schoolchildren, was held.

| 23.04.09 Boris Nevednichy - holder of the main prize |
The traditional annual International Tournament for the Disabled was held in Chisinau from 10th to 18th of April. And again the sevenfold champion of Moldova IM Boris Nevednichy became a winner of the competition among men. This tournament is held in Chisinau on the initiative of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov since 1998. More than 40 players took part in the tournament, among them - International Masters Victor Romcovici, Boris Nevednichy, disabled – Victor Panush, Herman Mynzat, Victor Geru, Dmitry Stoyanov and many others. The newspaper “Nezavisimaya Moldova” supported the initiative of the national chess federation and established six cash prizes for winners of tournament. | 03.04.09 Chess in schools in Moldova was given green light |
In recent years students of chess school in Moldova show consistently high results on the international arena, regardless of kind of competitions they are competing in: the international classification tournaments, the European Championships, the World Championships or the World Chess Olympiads. We are proud to have leading Grandmaster such as Victor Bologan, Viorel Iordachescu, Almira Skripchenko, Svetlana Petrenko, Karolina Smokina and on an equal basis with them and our young talented chess masters Irina Bulmaga, Diana Baciu, who represent our country at various chess forums. And I would like to stress once again that our leading chess players are the pupils of the program "chess in schools", which was carried out in the schools in Chisinau and in several other cities and districts with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the former Moldavian SSR from 1981 until the collapse of the former Soviet empire.
