The men’s team of Moldova took the 43rd position with 13 points at the Chess Olympiad held in Dresden, Germany. In the last round, Moldova drew with Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-2. Viorel Iordachescu scored a victory, Alexei Hrusciov and Vasile Sanduleac drew, while Dumitru Svetuschin suffered his first defeat. Viorel Bologan had the best performance, scoring 2,695 points. Yet, Dumitru Svetuschin obtained 7 points of the 11 possible. Armenia won the Chess Olympiad the second consecutive time with 19 points. Israel ranked second with 18 points, while the United States finished third with 17 points. The women’s team finished the 33rd with 13 points. In the last round, Moldova won against Ecuador 2.5-1.5. Elena Partac and Irina Bulmaga scored victories, Carolina Smochina drew, while Svetlana Petrenco suffered a defeat. Carolina Smochina had the best performance (2,299 points). She scored 6.5 points of the 11 possible. Irina Bulmaga had 2,298 points, but obtained 8.5 points of 11 the possible. Georgia won the competition with 18 points.
