"Dear friends, We learned today, with a deep sadness, of Fedor Fedorovich Skripchenko's passing. We would like to express our condolences and share some memories. Fedorych, as we called him, loved chess and had a great talent for its promotion. His contribution to chess in Moldova in the last forty years is unique and it would be impossible to replace. He promoted chess in the schools and for the youth, supported Moldovan chess talents and created conditions that allowed Moldovan players to grow to international level. Moldova was put on the World chess map due to his tireless efforts. Moldavian chess federation receives daily letters of condolence from all over the world for family of Mr. Skripchenko. “I am just informed, after my long trip that our Dear Friend, Feodor, an important portrait of the World chess has left us and passed away. On behalf of Turkish Chess Federation, I feel pain in my heart and respect to him, for his unique image in World chess. I hope his place will be heaven. 15.04.2010 Second place in Dubai Open for GM Viorel Iordachescu
GM Viorel Iordachescu 2621 took second place in Dubai Open 2010, which has finished today in Dubai. Moldavian chess player scored 7 points out of 9 possible, the same like first eight players, but took second place thanks to the high coefficient. Of the 7 scores, Viorel Iordachescu recorded 5 wins and 4 draws. In the final round, moldavian GM drew with the winner of the tournament GM Iturrizaga Eduardo 2604 from Venezuela, 20 years old. In Dubai Open 2010, 150 chess players took part, including 36 GMs. This is the second successful result in the Dubai Open in the career of Viorel Iordachescu. In 2004, he also won second place. 21.08.09 Chess is a new subject in schools of Moldova
The oldest game of humanity will be included in the curriculum of schools in Moldova since the autumn of this year in accordance with Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Moldova "On some measures of chess sports promoting in the Republic of Moldova". It states in part: to consider the promotion of chess sports as one of the priorities of the sport development in the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Education and Youth have to include chess module in the curriculum of school discipline "Physical Education" with effect since 2009-2010 school year. In the Central Chess Club of Chisinau a seminar for trainers, who will coordinate the training process of schoolchildren, was held.

23.04.09 Boris Nevednichy - holder of the main prize
The traditional annual International Tournament for the Disabled was held in Chisinau from 10th to 18th of April. And again the sevenfold champion of Moldova IM Boris Nevednichy became a winner of the competition among men. This tournament is held in Chisinau on the initiative of FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov since 1998. More than 40 players took part in the tournament, among them - International Masters Victor Romcovici, Boris Nevednichy, disabled – Victor Panush, Herman Mynzat, Victor Geru, Dmitry Stoyanov and many others. The newspaper “Nezavisimaya Moldova” supported the initiative of the national chess federation and established six cash prizes for winners of tournament. 03.04.09 Chess in schools in Moldova was given green light
In recent years students of chess school in Moldova show consistently high results on the international arena, regardless of kind of competitions they are competing in: the international classification tournaments, the European Championships, the World Championships or the World Chess Olympiads. We are proud to have leading Grandmaster such as Victor Bologan, Viorel  Iordachescu, Almira Skripchenko, Svetlana Petrenko, Karolina Smokina and on an equal basis with them and our young talented chess masters Irina Bulmaga, Diana Baciu, who represent our country at various chess forums. And I would like to stress once again that our leading chess players are the pupils of the program "chess in schools", which was carried out in the schools in Chisinau and in several other cities and districts with the approval of the Ministry of Education of the former Moldavian SSR from 1981 until the collapse of the former Soviet empire.

01.01.09 GM Bauer and GM Svetushkin tied on first

The 5th Open International de Vandoeuvre took place on 26th-30th December. After nine rounds of play with Swiss system, GM Christian Bauer and moldavian GM Dmitry Svetushkin (photo) shared the first place with 7.5 points each, full point ahead of the chasing pack. 26.11.2008 Moldova’s chess teams finish among top 50 at Dresden Olympiad
The men’s team of Moldova took the 43rd position with 13 points at the Chess Olympiad held in Dresden, Germany. In the last round, Moldova drew with Bosnia and Herzegovina 2-2. Viorel Iordachescu scored a victory, Alexei Hrusciov and Vasile Sanduleac drew, while Dumitru Svetuschin suffered his first defeat. Viorel Bologan had the best performance, scoring 2,695 points. Yet, Dumitru Svetuschin obtained 7 points of the 11 possible. Armenia won the Chess Olympiad the second consecutive time with 19 points. Israel ranked second with 18 points, while the United States finished third with 17 points. The women’s team finished the 33rd with 13 points. In the last round, Moldova won against Ecuador 2.5-1.5. Elena Partac and Irina Bulmaga scored victories, Carolina Smochina drew, while Svetlana Petrenco suffered a defeat.

26.05.08 Chess and Draughts Festival in Moldova
On 17 May 2008 Republican Chess and Draughts Festival dedicated to Youth Year and Sports Day took place at the territory of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chisinau, Moldova. The Festival was held on the initiative of the Agency of Sports of Moldova with technical assistance of the Ministry of Education and Youth, by the Republican Chess and Draughts club together with the Federations of Chess and Draughts of Moldova. Over 1500 fans of chess and draughts participated in the Festival, most of the participants were schoolchildren and young people. The program of the Festival consisted of various chess tournaments, competitions of chess tasks and problems solutions, an exhibition and sale of chess literature and equipment, as well as tournaments for veterans.  This Festival was opened by General Director of Agency of Spors Andrei Chmil, President of Chess Federation of Moldova Vladimir Molozhen and President of Draughts Federation Valery Raku.
